In just a couple of months, Californians will head to the polls mail in their ballots to decide, among many things, whether recreational marijuana should be legal in California. According to a new USC Dornslife / L.A. Times poll, the majority of voters favor it.
Proposition 64 would give people 21 and over the right to posses, transport, and use up to an ounce of the devil’s leaf for recreational purposes. You would also be allowed to grow up to six plants per person – so yeah, you can put that home brewing kit away and pick up some garden shears, everyone.
According to the poll, 58% of California voters support the proposition. Only 34% said they would vote no and 8% said they had no answer – probably because the poll taker asked them while they were standing next to their mom, who frowns on getting high.
Not surprisingly, the biggest group of supporters are those between the ages of 18 to 24 (67%), while the over 65 set has the lowest support at 50% in favor.
Among party lines, 68% of Democrats favor legalizing while 56% of Republicans oppose it – perhaps because they think if they smoke it, they will become to lazy to build that yuuuuge wall Mexico is paying for.
