For many years, Cathedral City gave diners nothing more than an Applebee’s and about a thousand fast food joints. But, these times are changing, my friends. Cathedral City now has a bunch of great, non-chain restaurants including Pollo Dokys – where you can find delicious Peruvian food at a fantastic price.

Now first, you may be asking: what is Peruvian food though. Solid question, as it’s not as well known as Italian or Mexican or Greek, and I think it is best answered in one word: saltado!

Now there are other dishes too, but, man, a saltado is Peruvian food at it’s best and Pollo Dokys does it great. They take open flame sauteed chicken strips (or filet mignon or a vegetarian option) and add onions, tomatoes, garlic, cilantro, and other veggies  – then they stir fry it with French fries. Yeah, you read that right. French fries! Then they also throw in some rice. This all ends up being freakin’ delicious.

I mean, look at it.  LOOK AT IT!!!

And here is where it gets crazy. They serve this all for under ten bucks, all day…err, day.

And while the saltados are stellar. You can also enjoy some of their rotisserie chicken (a quarter, a half, or the whole bird) served with a couple of sides. On my last visit, I opted for the half with fries and Aguadito Soup. The whole thing was less than ten bucks and it’s really good.

Plus, if you like your food spicy, throw some of that green hot sauce on their and boom! Your sinuses are all cleared up.

They have a bunch of other options on the menu too – with everything from sandwiches, pork, chicken, beef, and vegetarian dishes, along with plenty of sides including mashed potatoes, salad, pesto pasta, and Peruvian beans.

The dining area of Pollo Dokys is nothing special with a few tables and not much in the way of decor, but who cares. If that’s how they keep slingin’ great food at reasonable prices. So be it.

You can find Pollo Dokys in downtown Cathedral City in that retail center in front of the Mary Pickford Theater on Palm Canyon Drive (Highway 111).
