Portola is getting an I-10 offramp, just not anytime soon

Portola Exit

A new 72 million dollar onramp and offramp for the 10 freeway is coming to Palm Desert, just not anytime in the immediate future.

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the contract Tuesday, reports KESQ.

“This will be a major project managed by the county,” said board Chairman John Benoit. “It’s an honor when people recognize the good work we do.”

Now maybe the can all get to work on fixing CoachellaJam traffic?

The interchange was deemed necessary at Portola to ease congestion at the Monterey interchange and with future retail and residential projects in mind in the area.

The $72.1 price tag will be picked up by The Coachella Valley Association of Governments and the city of Palm Desert.

Just don’t look for it anytime soon, as construction is not expected to happen until at least 2020.
