Sure, you would love to volunteer to help out with your kid’s school field trip – but, your boss is kind of a dick and won’t give you any time off. That might not be a problem anymore if a new law is passed in California.
The new bill, introduced by assemblyman Mike Gatto, would give parents three days off a year for school-related events.
“Studies show that this greatly improves your child’s educational chances in life. And it’s really critical that we give parents this opportunity to do it without forcing them to make the tough decision between paying the bills and being involved,” Gatto told ABC 7.
The bill, which was introduced this week, would still have to go through committee before being voted on, would exempt small businesses with 25 employees or less.
Gatto says he expects to get opposition to his bill mostly from businesses who say that they can’t afford to give their employees those three days off. But, he believes that they can.
“We don’t want to put any one business out of business, but I think when you’re talking about the big, massive firms and corporations, they can afford to give people some time off to participate in their child’s education,” Gatto explained to CBS Sacramento.
