Rancho Mirage cancels concerts, closes library due to coronavirus

Taking what they call, “precautionary measures,” the city of Rancho Mirage cancelled several events and closed the city’s library and observatory for at least the next two weeks.

The city council decided upon the cancellations during an emergency meeting on Monday, according to the Desert Sun. The library and observatory will be closed until at least March 22. In addition, two upcoming Concerts  in the Park (Roberta Gambarini and 38 Special) and an appearance by Chris Evert as part of this year’s speaker series were also cancelled.

Rancho Mirage’s City Manger, Isaiah Hagerman, told the newspaper that the city hopes that by reducing events with large crowds, it will reduce the chance of infection of coronavirus.  The cancellations came same day that county officials announced that four people have now tested positive for the coronavirus in the Coachella Valley.

The city also asks anyone with business to conduct at City Hall to make an appointment or ask questions by email.
