The city of Palm Desert – a town best known for its lack of drive thru fast food joints and treating its employees like dirt – is searching for a new person to lead the municipal government and, as the Desert Sun notes, anyone and everyone has applied.

“We have conducted a nationwide recruitment that generated nearly 50 applications from as far away as Illinois,” Mayor Bob Spiegel told The Desert Sun.

“The City Council has narrowed that large field of applicants down to eight potential candidates. The council is now taking a closer look at the experience and qualifications of these candidates prior to conducting interviews,” he said. “We anticipate that we will have completed the interview process and selected a new city manager by the end of September.”

Why so many?  Well, Coachella Valley City Managers are paid ridiculous sums of taxpayer money even after being accused of sending around naked photos of city employees.

It is quite a gig, if you can get it.
