A retired police officer was arrested in Riverside after opening fire on a shoplifting suspect at a Home Depot.
Witnesses say they store employees were trying to stop the suspect in the parking lot of the store, on Madison Street, according to ABC 7. The retired officer became involved and the suspect got into his car at which point the retired officers shot at the man’s vehicle.

The shoplifting suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries to his neck and drove himself to the hospital, where he called police, reports CBS LA.
Investigators determined it was not justified and arrested the retired police officer for assault with a deadly weapon.
The shoplifiting suspect is expected to be issued a ticket for misdemeanor theft after they are released from the hospital.
No one else was injured.
