Rita Lamb has been elected to Cathedral City’s city council.

Lamb won the special election by 39 votes, reports KESQ. Lamb’s opponent, Shelley Kaplan, has until September 17 to request a recount – though the TV station says he told them he will not do so.

The special election was scheduled after residents complained the city’s initial plan to fill the seat vacated after the death of Greg Pettis seemed to be rigged.

According to the Desert Sun, Lamb will likely be sworn in during the September 25 council meeting.
