A 37-year-old Riverside man was arrested Wednesday after he intentionally crashing his pickup truck into his ex-girlfriend’s Toyota Scion leaving her in critical condition, according to police.

Huber Santoyo-Robles was booked for investigation of attempted murder and assault resulting in great bodily injury plus with three misdemeanor traffic-related offenses. His bail is $1 million dollars.

Police originally believed the incident, which happened just before 3am Monday, was a hit and run. But the investigation led them to Santoyo-Robles, as The Press Enterprise reports:

Police say that the crash amounted to domestic violence against the 29-year-old Riverside woman who was driving a Toyota Scion that also contained two of her friends.

The impact snapped off the right front wheel of the Scion, which rolled onto and over a parked car. The Scion landed on its roof, trapping the driver for about 30 minutes until firefighters cut her free.

The woman underwent emergency surgery and remains in the hospital.  The other passengers were a man, who also remains hospitalized, and a woman who was treated and has since been released, according to police.
