A husband and wife were arrested after police say they assaulted a man outside of a Calimesa bar.

Robert James Bateson and his wife, Deanna Bateson, of Beaumont, got into an argument with the victim at Rumors bar in Calimesa, reports KESQ. The victim was knocked to the ground and assaulted with a some type of weapon – which police say was not a firearm.

The 64-year-old victim sustained life threatening injuries and was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit of a nearby hospital.

Police arrested both Robert and Deanna Bateson on Thursday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
