Surveillance video has been released showing a man crashing into the gates at the San Bernardino Police headquarters for reasons that no one seems to be able to figure out.
Louis Manuel Iniguez was arrested after driving his Toyota Tundra pickup into 2 seperate gates at the San Bernardino Police headquarters (on D & E Street) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, reports The Press Enterprise.
“I thought it was an employee who lost his brakes,” Lt. Rich Lawhead told the newspaper. Lawhead then pulled the man over 3 blocks away after he sped away.
“What did you do that for?”, Lawhead asked.
“He said, ‘Don’t worry about it. Talk to my lawyer,'” Lawhead recalled hours later. “I couldn’t believe it!”
The LA Times notes that Iniguez lives only a few blocks from the building and was a police explorer with the department in the 1990s until he aged out of the program at 21. It does not appear that he was under the influence of any narcotics or alcohol, she said.
“We have nothing to point to any larger plot to attack the police station or our personnel, nor do we have any evidence to suggest he is part of a larger plot,” the police department said in a statement.
Iniguez was arrested for investigation of felony vandalism. He has no prior criminal history, according to police.
