San Diego inmates made a ‘Mannequin Challenge’ video with an illegal phone

The “Mannequin Challenge,” that thing that people keep doing even though you were kind of over it about a day after you first saw it, was recently done by a group of inmates in the San Diego area thanks to a contraband phone. What a time to be alive.

The vid, “Mannequin Challenge: Prison,” was uploaded to YouTube on November 13 and, this week, officials at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Otay Mesa confirmed that it was indeed filmed in the prison.

Prison officials are investigating how inmates obtained the phone used to film the video – as they are not allowed in the prison.

“An inmate caught with an illegal cellphone can lose up to 90 days of good time credit,” spokeswoman Terry Thornton told the Union Tribune. “There could be other sanctions as well.”

The video has over 83,000 views on YouTube.
