Police announced the arrests of six people in the fatal stabbing of a man who they say was part of a love triangle.
Alvaro Rios of Perris was found dead in San Juan Capistrano on July 13. He had been involved in a romantic relationship with Angelica Shiabata, 28, according to the L.A. Times. Shiabata was living with Brion Hyde, 22, at the time.
Prosecutors say that Shiabata asked Rios to meet her at an abandoned area near a bike path in San Juan Capistrano. When he arrived, the six suspects were there waiting for him. Rios was stabbed numerous times and left for dead.
His body was found by a jogger the next day.
The defendants in the case are Ashkan Dezhangfard, 22, Angelica Shiabata, 28, and Brion Hyde, 22, of San Juan Capistrano; Ryan Huebner, 20, and Siavish Hosseinaliarhani, 18, of Laguna Niguel; and Emmanuel Jones, 22, of Laguna Hills.
All of them have been charged with murder with a special circumstances allegation of lying in wait – which makes them all eligible for life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if they are convicted.
