SeaWorld has announced that they will phase out killer whale shows at the San Diego theme park.

Since the release of the documentary “Blackfish” in 2013, SeaWorld has seen public backlash against the way it keeps and treats their orcas. They have also seen a decline in attendance. So Monday, the company finally caved to public pressure and announced the shows will be replace with a conservation-oriented orca exhibit sometime in 2017.

SeaWorld Entertainment CEO Joel Manby said during his announcement that the new “orca experience” will have a “conservation message inspiring people to act.”
