Shopping at Aldi? Here is the one thing you will want to bring with you

You now have a new choice for grocery shopping in the Coachella Valley. Aldi is opening stores in Palm Springs and La Quinta on Thursday.  But, when you choose to check them out, there is one thing you are not going to want to forget.

Here are the details, via Press Enterprise (emphasis by me):

To save time on stocking, individual items are not unpacked from shipping boxes on the shelves. Shoppers bag their own groceries and are encouraged to supply their own bags. They can rent carts for a quarter, refundable upon return, to keep workers from spending time retrieving them.

So, unless you are planning on only grabbing a couple of things, bring that quarter with you.  In fact, maybe just leave it in your wallet, purse, or car from now on – just in case.

An Aldi store carries about 1,500 items – with more than 90 percent of what is on the shelves being Aldi-brand labels.  You won’t find a deli counter or bakery at Aldi and the company does not offer much in the way of choice either when it comes to size.  There is usually just one (maybe two options) for each product.

The new La Quinta’s store is located at Washington and Highway 111 (next to the new In-N-Out Burger).  The Palm Springs Aldi is at 5200 Ramon Road – in The Springs shopping center.  Another location, in Palm Desert next to Aaron Bros. in the old David’s Bridal location in the Desert Crossing Center will open at a later date.
