A 26-year-old photographer has captured amazing photos of this year’s brutal California wildfires.

Stuart Palley, from Newport Beach, told Daily Mail he has photographed more than 40 wildfires over the past few years. He says he wanted to show the beauty of California as well as the effect of wildfires and drought on the state with his pictures.

Palley has received special training so he can safely continue to photograph Californian wild forest fires and wears safety gear and carries a radio while out on shoots.  Palley told Time that his first priority is staying out of the way of firefighters.

Some of his amazing photos:

Fire in the Backyard: An Erickson Aero Tanker, a converted MD-87 airliner, makes a retardant drop on a ridgeline above Irvine Lake in Orange County Monday afternoon. The fire burned actively despite 50% relative humidity, and was driven by an onshore wind and record-dry fuels. The fire was allegedly by a Cal Trans crew moving grass off the 241 Toll road. At least two abandoned structures burned after the decision was made not to defend them (apparently they were slated for demo anyway). #cafire #ca #calfiornia #fire #wildfire #airtanker #retardant #fireseason #socal #orangecounty #irvine #santiago #santiagocanyon #ocfa #usfs #outdoors #hike #planes #aircraft #sky #mcdonnelldouglas #md87 #md80 #summer #drought #cadrought
