There’s a golf tournament in town – though you might not know it as about 99% of the marketing for the event seems to center around concerts from the Goo Goo Dolls and Huey Lewis and the News. And maybe that’s a smart tactic because, if you have ever been to a golf tournament, then you have experienced just what a snooze fest it can be.
There are a few things that make golf a terrible spectator sport the biggest of which is simply that it’s freakin’ hard to follow a tiny white ball hit 300 yards away from where your standing. It’s even harder to track the ball when you are waiting near the green – where you have the added benefit of possibly getting doinked on the head with the ball.
You also have to decide if you want to plant yourself at a hole and watch everyone or try to follow a particular golfer around and let’s not forget, you can’t make any noise except for a courtesy clap when a dude taps a 3 foot put into the hole.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that golf is an easy sport. It’s far from. It’s just boring af to watch. And it’s not alone. Tennis won’t let you talk or even take your seat for long periods of time if you get up to use the restroom and there are plenty of Olympic sports you couldn’t pay me to go to (I’m looking at you dressage).
So is golf the most boring sport to watch in person? Let’s discuss in the comments.
