You can check out a free screening of Pixar’s Coco this Friday at Sunnylands Center & Gardens Friday night as part of the Rancho Mirage property’s day-long series of Day of the Dead workshops and activities.
The movie screening will take place outdoors at 6:30 pm. Sunnylands will also offer guests the chance to color monarch butterfly cut outs and decorate skull masks that will be suitable for wearing from 8:30 am to 9 pm.
From 3 pm to 7 pm, the public is invited to make paper marigolds, flowers that commonly adorn graves and altars during Day of the Dead celebrations at Sunnylands.
Those planning on watching Coco on the Sunnylands Great Lawn may bring lawn chairs, blankets, and small picnic items. Large coolers, alcohol, smoking, and pets are not permitted.
The film is presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
In addition to Friday’s festivities, guests are invited to view ofrendas, or ceremonial altars, that have been erected in the gardens by various Coachella Valley organizations from 8:30 am to 4 pm now through Sunday, Nov. 3. This year’s displays mark the sixth season that Sunnylands has partnered with CV Days of Los Muertos to offer Día de los Muertos observances in the Coachella Valley.
Sunnylands Center & Gardens is located at 37977 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.
