Teen arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm in La Quinta

A 17-year-old was arrested after police say they negligently discharged a firearm and then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Deputies were called to Avenida Diaz a little before midnight on Wednesday, January 22, according to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept. There were no injuries and no reports of any vehicles or residences being struck.

The suspect was described as a 17-year-old juvenile that fled the scene in a black sedan. The La Quinta Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation and identified suspect as 17-year-old juvenile from La Quinta.

On Monday, the juvenile suspect was taken into custody during a traffic enforcement stop on Washington Street, south of Avenue 47. The driver, Josefina Perez, a 49-years-old La Quinta resident was arrested for driving without a license. During the traffic enforcement stop, items indicating marijuana sales were located.

The juvenile was booked at the Indio Juvenile Hall for negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of marijuana for sale.

Perez was booked for driving without a license.
