A Chinese teenager who goes by the nickname “Little Wang” wanted desperately to cure himself of his addiction to the internet. So he chopped off his hand with a kitchen knife.
Little Wang’s mother discovered the 19-year-old to be missing from his room Wednesday night – but found a note on his bed saying, “Mum, I have gone to hospital for a while. Don’t worry. I will definitely come back this evening.”
The 19-year-old, from the city of Nantong in Jiangsu, had taken a knife from the kitchen, snuck outside, severed his left hand at the wrist, then called a taxi to take him a nearby hospital – all while leaving his left the hand lying on the ground!
Police later found the hand on a bench and doctors were able to reattach it.
Chinese authorities estimate that a whopping 24 million young people in the country are addicted to the internet.
