The Mary Pickford movie theater in Cathedral City has added a ton of solar panels, making it the first 100% sustainable movie theater in the country.
Hundreds of solar panels were added to the roof and to the top of shaded parking areas, which should go a long way to helping the theater with their electric bill, which management says was $35,000 in August (it takes a lot to run air conditioning in those big theaters).
“We believe a project of this caliber helps pave the way for California as a whole to becoming increasingly sustainable and sets an example for other businesses,” a rep for the Mary Pickford theater told the TV station.
