Oh boy. Another heatwave is upon us in the Coachella Valley – and while it is expected that a desert would be hot in the summer, above normal temps can be downright miserable. Here are the things you can do in town while the heat is on.
List is ranked from worst to best:
- Hike: do not do this. Seriously.
- Go to the COD Street Fair: there are about 5 tents at the weekend event this time of year – apparently everyone else has realized it is hot or something.
- Go to a casino: this would rank higher if the local ones all did not smell like a chain smoker’s lung
- Go to the library: it’s an option, and it is free – but you know and I know, no one is going to do this.
- Go to a bar: drinking a beer might make you forget just how hot it is out, but it will also dehydrate you even more than you already are.
- Hang out in the pool: the days of the pool being nice and cool are fading fast, now it is like sitting in a warm bath – and do not even think of putting your bare feet on the concrete!
- Golf: the money you save on cheap summer greens fees will be spent on 200 gallons of Gatorade trying to rehydrate after your round.
- Go out to eat: thank you for supporting your local hospitality industry during the down season. Plus you can find some pretty good deals on grub this time of year.
- Stay home and watch Netflix: this would rank higher if Narcos Season 2 was out – though Stranger Things looks promising.
- Go to the waterpark: nothing like a waterslide to cool you off – plus it is cheaper this time of year.
- Go outside after dark: hey, look at you outside without immediately melting away. Now you can go catch Pokemon at the park or watch a free concert.
- See a movie: yes, movies are expensive – but you get the air conditioning for free and oops, did you just go to a second auditorium to watch another movie without buying a ticket? Your secret is safe with me.
- Go up the Palm Springs Tramway: be 40 degrees cooler in just a couple of minutes? Yes please!
