Remember all of those commercials about Congressman Raul Ruiz flying coach and driving a shitty car? Well, looks like he was just saving up some coin to buy some stock in Apple.
The Los Angeles Times has posted the financial information of California’s elected members of Congress. According to the Times, Ruiz has a net worth of $215,000 – with investments in the stock of Microsoft ($15,000), Coca Cola ($15,000), Visa ($50,000), and Apple ($50,000). Ruiz also has more than $100,000 in student loan debt (because becoming a doctor is not cheap).
Ruiz is far from the wealthiest congressperson in California (he ranks #32 on the list). Congressman Darrel Issa tops the list with a net worth of over $250 million dollars! He is followed by Senator Diane Feinstein ($52 million), Congressman Scott Peters ($40 million), and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi ($29 million).
At the opposite end of the spectrum, The Times estimates Congressman David Valadao to be worth -8.7 million dollars. Yes, you read that right. Dude has a net worth of negative 8.7 million dollars (though a lot of that is probably due to the broad ranges congress people are allowed to use for assets and liabilities on their disclosure forms).
