A hero has emerged in the case of Logan Autry, a third grader in the Fresno area who was told not to wear his “Make America Great Again” hat in class. Autry had vowed to continue wearing the hat as part of a “First Amendment stand” and the media went nuts on this story – because really, this is what matters in the election – but, not anymore. And it is all because of an unlikely hero.
“It’s my favorite hat. The First Amendment says I can wear my hat,” the 9-year-old tol WCMH-TV Columbus. “They told me to take my hat off because it brings negative emotions to the other children who don’t like him.”
The school district has a dress code that allows hats outside of class, but if it is a distraction or causes problems, the school can ask the student to not wear it anymore. Like the school did in this case because the hat was leading to bullying by other students.
Normally that would be case closed – but nope. Not this time. Not in this dumb election we are having.
The school actually had to release a statement on the matter.
“We are proud that in this case, our school achieved that goal by allowing the student to wear his hat for several statements,” the statement obtained by WCMH said. “However, it is also our responsibility to take precautions when the discourse begins to impact our school climate and interrupt school operations.”
Not that the school district’s reasoned and sane policy meant anything to Autry, who said he was just going to wear the hat anyway.
“It’s not the hat that draws attention, it’s just my personality that the other children do not like,” he told ABC 30.
But, that will not be the case. As Fox News pointed out, the Autry’s family dog ripped it apart while Logan was swimming – probably because the dog was as tired of hearing about this dumb story as everyone else.
Autry Dog for President ????.
