The guy who destroyed Donald Trump’s Hollywood star with a pickaxe and a sledgehammer could spend up to three years in jail.
James Lambert Otis, the heir to the Otis Elevator fortune, was charged with felony vandalism on Thursday. The charges were announced by The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
The star was smashed at about 5:54 am on October 26 and Otis almost immediately took credit for the destruction. Via Deadline:
Speaking to Deadline, the man said his name was Jamie Otis. He said he originally intended to remove Trump’s star completely to auction it off next month in New York to raise funds for the women who have recently come forward to accuse Trump of sexually assaulting them over the decades. In the past few months, 11 women have claimed the GOP POTUS candidate groped or otherwise attempt to get intimate with them. At a rally earlier this week, Trump told supporters the accusers were not telling the truth and that he would sue them after the November 8 election.
Otis claimed that he was, “not frightened of jail and I’m certainly not frightened of Mr. Trump.”
He turned himself in to police later that day.
The star which has been defaced, pooped on, and had a wall built around it, is in the process of being fixed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
