Two arrested for carjacking at gunpoint in Palm Desert

A man and a juvenile boy were arrested on Sunday after police say they carjacked someone in a Palm Desert parking lot at gunpoint.

According to the police report, officers were called at 10:49 am to a retail parking lot on the 72400 block of Highway 111. They were told that two men took the victim’s car at gunpoint and fled. All surrounding law enforcement agencies were alerted and a vehicle matching the description was spotted by a deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department getting on the 10 west at Date Palm.

A pursuit ensued by was quickly called off due to unsafe speeds and public safety considerations. CHP Officers spotted the vehicle a short time later A short time later off the freeway in Cabazon where the passenger, a 16-year-old juvenile from Moreno Valley, was taken into custody.

The driver fled and headed west on the 10 and then onto the 60 freeway, where it eventually pulled off and stopped on Cottonwood Avenue and Heacock Street in Moreno Valley. The driver, identified as Deandre John Ray, age 18 of Moreno Valley, was taken into custody.

Both Ray and the juvinile were charged with carjacking.
