Two arrested for mail theft, vehicle burglaries in the Coachella Valley

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department released information about the arrest of two men this week who police say were involved in a series of mail theft and vehicle burglaries around the Coachella Valley that may have involved as many as 80 victims.

The La Quinta Special Enforcement Team served a search warrant in Palm Desert regarding vehicle burglary, identity theft, mail theft, credit card fraud, and commercial burglary at the residence of Richard Otis, 30, in Palm Desert.

Simultaneously, the Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team, with the assistance of SWAT, served a search warrant at the Indio home of 34-year-old Christian Nevarez.

The La Quinta Special Enforcement Team identified approximately 50 potential victims of vehicle burglary and/or theft at Otis’ residence while the Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team identified approximately 30 potential victims.

Otis and Nevarez were booked into the Indio jail.
