Two arrested for stealing more than 400 pounds of mangos

Two people were arrested Wednesday after police say they stole produce from Coachella Valley farms.

Sheriff’s deputies found over 400 pounds of freshly picked mangos in a vehicle during a traffic stop of a suspect who was part of an investigation into thefts in Thermal, Oasis, and Mecca, according to a news release. The mangos were identified as having been stolen earlier in the morning from a local farm.

25-year-old, Thermal resident, Carlos Alvarado, and 59-year-old Thermal resident Maria Arciniega were arrested for felony theft of agriculture. Alvarado was also arrested on an outstanding felony theft warrant.
