Two teens dead in Morongo Valley crash. Driver of other vehicle arrested for DUI.

Two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, died on Wednesday after a Prius they were riding in collided with a Ford Fiesta in Morongo Valley Wednesday night.

The crash happened about 10:30 pm on Twentynine Palms Highway west of Rosella Drive, according to the Hi-Desert Star. The Prius was attempting to turn left into the Circle K and was hit by a Ford Fiesta being driven west “at a high rate of speed.

The teenagers were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.The 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead a little after midnight. The 14-year-old boy was flown from Desert Regional to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two adult passengers of the Prius, Colin Campbell, 49, and Gail Lerner, 49, were taken to Desert Regional. Campbell suffered major injuries while Lerner was treated for minor injuries.

Campbell and Lerner are both writers, notes the Desert Sun. Lerner wrote for “Will & Grace” and is currently an Executive Producer on “Black-ish.”  The two were nominated for an Academy Award in 2001 for a short film, “Seraglio,” that they made together.

The driver of the Fiesta, 33-year-old Nicole Packer, of Morongo Valley, suffered major injuries and was hospitalized. She was also arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.
