Police were involved in a different kind of pursuit on Sunday across the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge. Officers tailed a small black Chihuahua for a pretty good distance before capturing the little fella who clearly had a ruff morning.
It took at least three units — two motorcycles and a patrol car – to catch the pooch who was heading towards San Francisco.
The CHP took the dog to a San Francisco animal shelter where staff members named it Ponch, after Erik Estrada’s Frank Poncherello on “CHiPs.”

The dog wore a tag decorated with a human skull, but it had no identification.
Ponch is doing well this morning @CHPSanFrancisco @ErikEstrada but he would love to see his family. #BayBridgeDog pic.twitter.com/t8rGQosHfK
