An investigation is underway after video surfaced showing a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy threatening to arrest a man who was trying to file a report in Victorville.
The guy who took the video, Duncan Hicks, says he went to the station to file a report and says he was confronted by a rude officer who refused, according to ABC 7.
Hicks then returned with his cellphone recording and filmed this video:
“You know what, man? I’m getting tired of you and you’re about to go to jail, just so you know,” the deputy says in the video.
Hicks says he was trying to file a child custody report due to some issues he was having – which he says the deputy dismissed him and told him he was having “baby mama drama.”
“I’ll create something, you understand? You’ll go to jail, you understand that?” the deputy is heard saying in the video. “Recording me like that — that’s illegal without my knowledge. You want to go to jail for that, too?”
The sheriff’s department says that there is no policy that prohibits the recording of its employees and is investigating the incident. The department also reached out to Hicks to apologize.
San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon, also responded to the video with a statement (via The Sun):
“Since viewing the video, our employees’ response to the citizen is not consistent with my expectation of customer service. Additionally, the deputy’s responses are not consistent with the interpretation of the law,” McMahon said in a written statement. “As a result, we are conducting an administrative investigation into this incident, and the four other previous contacts with the citizen to ensure all previous contacts were professionally handled.”
Despite the apology, Hicks says he wants the deputy fired.
