A woman says that a lipstick sample she tried at the Sephora store in Hollywood gave her herpes in a new lawsuit.
The woman, who was not identified, says that it happened in October 2015, reports TMZ. She says she never had herpes before, but after trying the lipstick got it on her lip. Her lawsuit claims that the store failed to clearly warn customers of the risk of getting a disease from using samples of lipstick there.
The woman is suing for emotional distress for getting an “incurable lifelong affliction” in the lawsuit.
A spokesperson for Sephora told Fashionista that the health and safety of its customers is a priority but did not comment on the lawsuit.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, 50 percent to 80 percent of U.S. adults have oral herpes. Once infected, a person has the virus for the rest of their life.
