A woman died while hiking in Joshua Tree National Park on Saturday.
The woman, who was not identified, was hiking with her family towards Mastodon Peak Trail, but missed the sign and continued towards Lost Palms Oasis, according to the national park.
They eventually realized they missed their turn and turned around – but on the way back, the woman began suffering heat-related symptoms and passed out.
Her husband went to get help while the rest of the group stayed behind. A park ranger responded at 2:25 p.m. and found the woman not breathing and without a pulse. He called for aid and administered CPR. The woman was transferred to an ambulance where she was declared deceased.
Temperatures Saturday were around 100 degrees in Joshua Tree.
