A woman was hospitalized after she was shot early Sunday morning at the Guatemala Grill in Cathedral City.

A fight broke out inside the business just before 2 am, police told the Desert Sun. During the scuffle a man took a security guard’s gun. The man then pointed the gun at the security guard and demanded he drop the phone he was calling 9-1-1 on or he would shoot.

At some point, a second fight broke out and the suspect shot the woman and pistol whopped another woman.  The suspect then fled in a vehicle.

Witnesses followed the suspect and called police. Brian Arrellano Vital, 22, was arrested at an Arco gas station on Palm Drive around 3 am.

The condition of the woman, described as a 32-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident, has not been released.

Arellano Vital was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
