According to CHP Officer Randy O’Brien, a white Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Alta Loma at 6:59 a.m. Witnesses said the truck was traveling about 60 miles per hour. Traveling eastbound on Yucca Trail was a school bus filled with students going to La Contenta Middle School. The bus turned into the path of the truck causing a head-on crash. The driver and sole occupant of the truck was killed. Four students in the bus received minor injuries; two were taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center; two were treated at the scene. Another bus at the intersection on La Contenta–leaving the school—was hit by debris. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.

Authorities expect the intersection to be closed for several hours on Friday.
