Diners were not able to enjoy anything off of the 2 for $20 for almost 2 hours yesterday as the Yucca Valley Applebee’s was evacuated because of a man’s suspicious suitcases that ended up being full of shoes and tools.
Witnesses told cops that a man, described by restaurant employees as a transient, wheeled in two suitcases into the lobby of the restaurant than immediately left the business. When he did not come back after 15 minutes, the Sheriff’s department was called.
Deputies arrived and evacuated the restaurant of staff and about 30 customers (to which, 30 customers!…not bad for a Wednesday at 2 p.m., Applebee’s). The bomb and arson squad were called in, and after thorough investigation, it was found that the suitcases contained shoes and tools and posed no danger.
Applebee’s was reopened at about 3:45 when customers once again were able to order fiesta lime chicken, riblet baskets, and boneless wings.
