900 customers lose power in Indio after train hits power lines

Nearly 900 people are without power on what could end up being the Coachella Valley’s first 100 degree day thanks to a freight train hitting electrical lines in Indio Monday morning.

Imperial Irrigation District officials told City News Service that the outage was caused by a Union Pacific train hitting primary conductor lines near Highway 111 just north of Dr. Carreon Boulevard.

The agency says that power should have been restored and anyone without electricity should check their main breaker or call 1- 800-303-7756.
