Recently I asked longtime residents of The Greater Palm Springs Area for any advice they would give to someone who had just moved to The Desert. Tips covered everything from dealing with the heat to driving to the old people. Some were serious, some were not. Some were smart, some were absurd. Some were sincere and some were just dickish.
And now, in no particular order, are #80- #61:
80) Always use a sunshade in your car. (Alexis S)
79) Scalping season and allergy don’t mix well. It’s dry.. buy a good lotion. Park in shade or under a tree. (Karla Q.)
78) Try to run errands in the morning. (Sheila)
77) Learn to play golf …a lot! (James L.)
76) Beware of drivers when all you can see of them is blue hair and knuckles on the steering wheel (Michael C.)
75) Face the fact that even if you cover the steering wheel, it’s going to be burning hot when it’s 100+ degrees. Put a couple towels and/or wash clothes in the car for the seat and handling the wheel. (Sheila C.)
74) Cyclists think they are cars and also think they are going 50 mph during rush hour. Stay clear!!! (Celeste E.)
73) Learn important phrases in Spanish. Like donde esta el baño. And poquito, gracias, porfavor. Avoid walmarts on payday. (Karla Q.)
72) Do Not Drive Slow On Highway 111 the sign says 50 so go 50!! (Jovanny S.)
71) Don’t come if you have kids and want them to have access to varied actives and you’re not a millionaire. Also, car window shades are a must. (Kelly G.)
70) Do not leave anything in your car that could melt …that goes for drivers licenses, sunglasses, nice shoes, etc. I’ve lost many things I loved (Sarah L.)
69) Meth is very, very bad. A lot of locals do it. You should not. (Javier M.)
68) Get a gym membership! It’ll help with the summer blues and with enough effort will help you get laid more often. (Jerry S.)
67) Keep hydrated… Winters are great… You can be in the mountains or at the beach in two hours in August… Locals are great… Cyclists are faster than snowbirds… (Aaron G.)

65) Wherever they choose to live make sure there’s a pool. Make sure your ac is up to date and efficient. (Patrick C.)
64) Make sure your car has ac, if not trade it in….for a white car with a beige interior…or anything other than black/dark blue. Seriously. Get you some of those shinny window shades…stock up on sunscreen…don’t rent an apartment with floors or interior other than sand colored, unless you like to clean alot. (Lorraine H.)
