The 15-second video clip, which has no audio and has since been deleted from Instagram, was recorded from a car parked behind a police vehicle. The person filming the video is seated in what looks like the passenger side of the the car.
First the officer is shown, then the camera pans to show a hand holding what appears to be a gun. The gun is then hidden under something as the camera then pans back to the police car.
Cmdr. Andrew Smith told The L.A. Times that the LAPD is investigating the tape and that LAPD officials were “making our officers aware of it and letting them know that we take this and all threats against our officers very seriously.”
UPDATE: ABC 7 reports that an arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect who may have made the video as a way to promote his rap group…
“The investigation revealed that the film was made by members of an early 1990’s rap group no longer in fashion. The film was made and posted on social media to ignite a comeback by the rap group,” LAPD said in a press release on Tuesday.
PoliceOne, a police news blog, reported that vide was originally posted to an Instagram account @brownsider_klever – which belongs to Brownside, a hip-hop group founded by Eazy-E in 1994.
