A dead guy won an election in Oceanside

The biggest surprise of Election Day may not have been America electing a Twitter troll as the leader of the free world. In Oceanside, voters elected a dead guy as city treasurer! I guess they won’t have to worry about him pocketing any of the city’s money.

Gary Ernst, who died in September, was the incumbent in the the election and won 54 percent of the vote against Nadine Scott, who was the only candidate in the rave who was breathing.

Ernst’s death was announced Sept. 23, but his name remained on the ballot because the deadline for printing had already passed, reports the Union Tribune.

The Oceanside City Council will now appoint a (living) replacement.
