Man driving 3 step kids busted with 57 pounds of cocaine near Salton City

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Salton City after agents say they found 57 pounds of cocaine in his car.

The man, who was not identified, was stopped at the checkpoint on Highway 86 on February 3rd, reports KTLA.

After being alerted to the 2010 Toyota Camry by a K-9 unit, police found the drugs in hidden compartments in the car’s floor.

The man was was arrested on suspicion of smuggling cocaine, according to NBC 4. His stepchildren who were in the car with him — ages 10, 7 and 6 — were put into the custody of Imperial County’s child protective services agency.

The drugs had a street value of $678,000, according to the Border Patrol.
