Joshua Tree National Park is full of some amazing, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind hikes. But, while some are insanely popular (Lost Palms Oasis, Lost Horse Mine), others are a not quite as well-known. Here are some of those hikes courtesy of the parks Twitter feed.
Take the road less travelled! Today we’ll be posting our favorite alternate hikes to the more popular ones found in the park.

Indian Cove Nature Trail
The trail is a little more than half a mile long and takes about 30-45 minutes to complete the loop. Desert plants line the gently rolling path.
For a short & easy day hike, ditch the Split Rock Trail for the less visited Indian Cove Nature Trail located in Indian Cove Campground. Admire the dramatic rock formations of the surrounding mountains, then dip back into town just in time for lunch. pic.twitter.com/AMVj6mNHeO

Hi-View Nature Trail
A 1.5 hour loop that is 1.3 miles from the parking area or 3 miles if you choose to head out from the visitor center instead. The hike includes Joshua tree forests, panoramic views, and has several benches to take a break and enjoy the view. There is an elevation change of about 400 feet and a few steep sections
For a sunset hike, check out Hi-View Nature Trail located in Black Rock Campground. As its name suggests, the trail offers vista views of Black Rock Canyon and the town of Yucca Valley. Enjoy a more private sunset away from the crowds on this scenic hike. pic.twitter.com/VDVyvTojwt

Cap Rock Nature Trail
The trail is a little under a half mile and has its own parking area at the junction of Park Boulevard and Keys View Road. You can check out boulder piles, Joshua trees, and other desert plants on an easy 30 – 45 minute path that is wheelchair-accessible.
How about a night hike for an alternate hike? Cap Rock Nature Trail is great in the day but at night, the scenery is out of this world. Enjoy cool desert evening temps on this 1/4 mi loop. Catch the trail on a full moon & it may even be bright enough to turn off your headlamp. pic.twitter.com/g1mMV6pnw0
