A bear who just wanted to spend a little time chillin’ in a Rancho Cucamonga eucalyptus tree ended up getting a junior high school placed on lockdown Wednesday morning while authorities attempted to capture it.
The black bear was first spotted before 8 a.m. near Hellman and Lemon avenues, then scampered more than a mile east to Highland and Hermosa avenues, reports the LA Times.
Here is some video of the bear’s stroll through the neighborhood captured by police:
It was there that it climbed up the tree and stared at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers below for about an hour.
The tree was close to Vineyard Junior High School, so officials put the school on lockdown.
The bear eventually decided to get out of the tree and was then then was tranquilized by wildlife officials, who said they will take it back to the forest.
