The Palm Springs Tramway should definitely make their new Wi-Fi free

Soon, you won’t be able to use that excuse that you missed a text because you were at the top of the The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway without any service.

The popular Coachella Valley attraction is rolling out Wi-Fi at the mountain station in the next couple of weeks, according to the Desert Sun – but, it is probably going to cost you to use it:

The Winter Park Authority board, which oversees the Palm Springs tramway, discussed several ideas about how to roll out the service, and whether there should be a fee attached.

“And perhaps, I’m going to throw this out, the first half hour is free,” offered Barry Freet, board chair.

Jon Sheinberg, another board member, suggested making the signal available in food and beverage areas or gift shops, an enticement to encourage not only wireless use, but perhaps a little shopping.

The board –  apparently forgetting that thousands of Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter posts would equal millions of dollars in free advertising – might want to reconsider that whole charging for Wi-Fi thing, especially considering that they just started charging five bucks for out-of-towners just to park at the bottom of the tram.

Even Starbucks figured out no one wants to pay for internet years ago.
