Biplane crashes at Palm Springs airport

Two people were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries after a biplane they were in crashed at Palm Springs International Airport Wednesday afternoon.

The airplane crashed during an “aborted takeoff” and was about 200 feet in the air when it lost power.  The plane landed and skidded off runway.

The plane, a 1940s-era Stearman, crashed at about 1 p.m. and forced all runways to shut down, reports The Desert Sun.  Airport officials used a flatbed truck to remove the biplane from the runway at about 2 p.m.

The plane is reportedly registered to the Palm Springs Air Museum, according to KESQ.  A spokesman for the museum told The Desert Sun that no one was seriously injured in the crash.
