Developer formerly known as Wessman fails to bring Whole Foods to Palm Springs

Buried in a KESQ promotional piece for yet another Sephora store opening in the Coachella Valley (with this one opening up in downtown Palm Springs), is a tidbit about Grit Development, the developer that was known as Wessman Development (until just after that whole, you know, bribery charges thing), and its failure to lure a Whole Foods to the downtown project.

In addition, after much speculation, Whole Foods has declined to open a second Coachella Valley location at this time. Grit Development’s Michael Braun said the company did not rule out the possibility of a Palm Springs location in the future but passed for now. He also said discussions with other grocery stores to open in the downtown development block are ongoing.

The bad news follows last week’s disclosure that the Virgin Hotel planned for Palm Springs will open at least three years late, if at all due to a lawsuit over wages paid during construction of the project.

But hey, Palm Springs does have those ugly babies, so there’s that.
