DHS man arrested for allegedly putting camera in bathroom of Cathedral City Stater Bros.

A 41-year-old man was arrested after police say he installed a hidden camera in the bathroom of Stater Bros. and other businesses in Cathedral City.

Police were called to the supermarket on Monday for a report of a video camera found in the public bathroom, according to KESQ. Officers and members of the grocery chain’s corporate security tram determined the “small, covert camera had been installed for illegal monitoring.

The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Jason Pomare of Desert Hot Springs. He was arrested at a residence on Eliseo Road in Desert Hot Springs.

Additionally, investigators identified other locations in the city, including restaurants and retail establishments, which they say Pomare may have set up similar cameras. Those businesses, which were not named, have been notified and are cooperating with the investigation.

Pomare, a registered sex offender, was arrested in 2013 after he was caught recording women in a Macy’s restroom at the Antelope Valley Mall while wearing a wig, dress, and padded bra.

The Cathedral City Police Department urges business owners to check their public areas, not just bathrooms and changing rooms, to “verify the safety of their customers and employees.”
