DHS robbery suspect goes skinny dipping in effort to ‘disguise his appearance’

(Desert Hot Springs Police)

A Desert Hot Springs man was arrested after police say he robbed a home, then tried to avoid capture by ditching his clothes and going skinny dipping in a hotel pool.

Police were called to a home on San Juan Road for a burglary in progress. Officers were told that the suspect was known to the victim and had fled on foot after stealing property, according to DHS Police.

A search was conducted including the use of a CHP helicopter. Staff at a nearby hotel told officers the suspect was in the pool area. While the helicopter flew overhead, the suspect hide his clothing and jump into the pool in order to “disguise his appearance.”

As officers made their way into the pool area, the suspect fled on foot through a back exit, but was taken into custody in the hotel’s parking lot.

Christopher McCurdy, 48 of Desert Hot Springs, was arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest and violating parole, among other counts of suspected crimes and a previous arrest warrant.
