Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have placed metal detectors into the screening area for guests entering the park beginning today.  The theme parks also have banned toy guns from the property.

Disney announced the changes this morning. A Disneyland official said the new security measure is not in response to any threats.

“We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate,” Suzi Brown, a Disneyland spokeswoman told the Press Enterprise.

Not every guest will be screened, some will be “randomly selected” to walk through a secondary magnetomator portal before proceeding into the park.  This process has made for longer than normal lines, according to guests.

The new rules were listed on the Disneyland park rules website and mentions that toy guns will not be allowed or sold in the parks, including “toy blasters, squirt guns etc.”

Other changes include “vapor wake” dogs, trained to sniff out explosives and other things, roaming the park and the banning of people over 14 from wearing a mask or costume.
