Police arrested a suspected drunk driver early Friday on the rooftop of a Palm Springs home.

Palm Springs Police say that Gilberto Hernandez III, 24 of Indio, was driving the wrong way on South Indian Canyon and Ramon Road at about 1:45 a.m. Friday morning. Cops tried to pull him over, but he had other plans – those plans: driving his pickup truck into the desert, say authorities.

The truck got stuck in the desert, and Hernandez fled on foot to a nearby housing complex – where, after a search of the area, officers found him hiding on the rooftop.

A loaded .40-caliber handgun and shotgun were found by officers inside of his truck, according to the release.

Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of evading police; reckless driving; driving under the influence of alcohol; driving with a suspended or revoked license; carrying a loaded firearm in public; possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine and violation of probation.
